Seger Funeral Home offers several types of cremation services:
Cremation after a traditional service -- this type of service is the same as a traditional service with the exception of cremating instead of going to the cemetery for earthen burial.
Cremation with a memorial service -- the cremation process is carried out and then a memorial service is provided afterward. The traditions of the funeral service are the same the only difference being an urn containing the cremated remains are present instead of a casket.
Direct cremation is another option -- many people request to eliminate "all the bother of funeral services" for family members. Funeral services aren't provided for the deceased -- they're there to help support and comfort the living. Take time to consider family and friends and their need to work through the grieving process before you make this decision.
The urn may be either buried on a family plot in the cemetery, after any of these types of services, or the remains may be scattered. Scattering requests should be given careful consideration. Emptying the urn of all that remains of a loved one can be a traumatic experience -- carefully consider the feelings of your family before deciding whether or not to do this.
Restrictions on cremation are different from state to state, even from one cemetery to the next. Depending on the final resting place you choose, requirements may include an urn, urn vault, and other items. Making your choices now can help your family down the road.
